Robert Hannigan, B.Mus, M.Ed

Mr. Hannigan was born in Trail B.C. and has played the trombone since he was thirteen. After high school he pursued his studies at Douglas College in New Westminster. During his studies there he began studying bass trombone, and soon after developed a strong passion for teaching. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver B.C.

Robert has performed in many ensembles in British Columbia. His interest for different music styles allows him to play with groups of all genres. These genres include classical, jazz, funk, ska, and rock. He has performed with various orchestras which include the UBC symphony, the Vancouver Academy Orchestra, and the Vancouver Youth Orchestra. Since coming to Prince George, he has regularly performed with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the In The Mood Jazz Band in Prince George, and is currently Director of the Prince George Community Band.
 
Throughout the years Robert has been developing his passion for teaching. For the last nineteen years, he has taught music to both children and adults of various levels. While in Vancouver, Robert participated in the VSO Connects Program, which brings the magnificent and diverse world of symphonic music to elementary and secondary students.

 

More recently, his technical skills in computer coding, graphic design, 3D printing and modelling, and basic robotics has opened him up to another teachable area.

Robert received a Bachelor of Education degree from UBC in August 2008, and has been teaching and performing in Prince George B.C. for the last fourteen years. He completed a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Vancouver Island University in Aug 2022.
